We had my sister’s baby shower a couple of weeks ago! She is having her first girl and we are so excited to meet that cutie pie! We decided to have a circus theme for the shower, it was so fun! There are a few DIY projects that I am going to share with you guys in the weeks to come from the shower. Today I am going to show you the DIY Barn Wood Drink Stand that I made.
Here is my cut list:
2- 1×6 cut to 12″ long
2- 1×6 cut to 10″ long
1- 1×12 cut 12″ long
* If you use wood that isn’t truly one inch thick, remember to adjust your cut lengths.
This is one of my first projects using REAL old barn wood. Lets say that I am glad that it was for a smaller project. I liked working with it, it was just a little bit tricky.
I originally tired to assemble the stand using wood glue and my nail gun. As you can see from the picture below some of the boards were not completely straight. There were gaps and bends in parts of the boards. The wood glue was not touching both boards in some areas and the nails were also not holding well either.
I ended up drilling pilot holes with my drill and using wood screws. I actually like the look of the screws that I used. They are black and they sort of make it look more rustic.
Once the box was all put together I realized all of the boards that I
needed to cut, no longer looked old and weathered. I wanted the wood to
look uniform. I remembered my handy dandy Minwax slate wood stain that I used when I made my DIY barn wood. I grabbed some of that and added it just to the edges of the boards that I had to cut.
I think that the wood stain really did the trick. You can tell that it is slightly darker. I am probably the only one at the party who noticed. It seems like whenever I am the one making something it is easier to see the imperfections.
I love the way that this box turned out!! The lemonade that we made was AMAZING!! Maybe if I get real ambitious I will show you guys how to make it. It is really easy by the way, and did I mention soooo good.
Be on the look out for some more DIY projects from this shower
